Generator Installation in Birmingham, AL
Home standby generator installation in Greater Birmingham, sized for what your house needs to keep running when the power goes out.
Power for the things that cannot go off.
Storms knock out power across Greater Birmingham every year. A standby generator starts on its own when the grid fails and runs the circuits you choose until power returns.
Most of getting one right is in the planning: what it has to run, where it can sit, and how it connects to the panel and the fuel supply. That planning is the estimate visit.
Generator installation is done by Autumn Air, which holds Alabama Electrical license #05422 and has served Greater Birmingham since 2016.
How an installation comes together.
01
Sizing
We list what has to keep running, from a few essential circuits to the whole house, and size the generator to match.
02
Placement
A location that meets clearance requirements and keeps exhaust away from doors and windows.
03
Connection
A transfer switch connects the generator to your panel so it can never feed power back into the utility lines.
04
Fuel
Standby generators run on natural gas or propane. We look at what the house has and plan around it.
Worth considering if:
A generator earns its place when:
- Someone at home relies on powered medical equipment
- You work from home
- The house depends on a sump pump or a well pump
- You have lost a fridge of food to an outage before
- Outages where you live tend to last more than a few hours
- You want the house covered while you are away
Generator questions.
What size generator do I need?
That depends on what you want to run. We size it from a list of your essential circuits or the whole house's load.
Does it start on its own?
A standby generator with an automatic transfer switch starts on its own and switches back when utility power returns.
Can I plug a portable generator into the house?
Never into an outlet. A portable generator needs a proper connection installed by an electrician, or it can back-feed the lines and endanger utility workers.
